What is Content?

As I'm always talking about content websites, I'm quite often asked 'what do you mean by content?'.
People like me who build websites have a fairly clear idea; it's everything we put on a website beyond the design and navigation. It can be articles, videos, streaming audio, downloadable pdf's, music and images.
But what do other people think content is?
